E Scooters |

|
Dear Residents,
Thinking of buying your child an e-scooter? 🛴
E-scooters can seem like the perfect solution for getting kids to school or giving them independence. However, privately owned e-scooters are currently illegal to use on public roads, pavements, parks and cycle lanes in the UK.
Unlike the rental e-scooters you see in city centres, privately owned e-scooters are not assessed to the same safety checks and standards.
If caught, they could be fined and get penalty points on your driving licence. The scooter could also be seized by the police.
In 2022, there were 1,411 e-scooter collisions in Great Britain, resulting in 1,502 casualties and 12 fatalities. Meanwhile, in 2023 there were 1,292 e-scooter collisions which led to 1,387 casualties and 6 fatalities.
For a safer option, rental e-scooters are available in 18 regions across England as part of a regulated Government Trial Scheme. They’re legal to ride on the roads for anyone over 16 years old with a valid UK provisional or full driving licence.
