Vehicle traffic scams - Northfield |
||
Dear Residents,
It has been reported that there have been a number of incidents across Northfield whereby Motorbike riders have attempted to deliberately collide with other vehicles for scamming purposes commonly known as “Crash for cash scams”.
Please be vigilant and cautious of suspicious drivers. Look out for sudden breaking, More than one vehicle involved in the scam one vehicle acting as a distraction and the other as the victim vehicle and being encouraged to proceed on a junction or when merging where a vehicle will then pull out in front of you.
These road users aim to make it look like the incident is your fault in order to make a claim If you suspect a scam contact police on 101 or report online.
Useful advice: Gather information such as images of any damages, drivers details, number of passengers and events leading up to the incident. Record details of any witnesses (Name, contact information and address if willing to provide). Make a note of vehicle registrations and insurance information. Install a dash camera to your vehicle as this could prove your innocence in the event of a false claim an may also act as a deterrent to scammers. Note any addresses or licenced premesis which may have CCTV or doorbell cameras capturing the incident.
Please drive safely and maintain a safe distance between you and other road users.
Many thanks,
Northfield Safer Neighbourhood Team.
