Local Priorities Motor vehicle crime

Please review the following update regarding Anti Social Behaviour which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

 

On 12/09/2025 Longlands safer neighborhood team came across a suspicious van parked on the edge of CARLTON LEE SPUR DA14 which had a parking ticket placed on it. The VIN number was obscured also. After conducting enquiries with the business associated with the vehicle it became apparent the van was showing false plates as the actual owner who lives far away told police his van was parked on the drive. They had also received parking charge notices too. After a search of the van under Section 1 of the Police and Criminal Evidence ACT 1984 a jammer was found. These jammers are used in burglaries and theft of motor vehicles.

The vehicle was recovered and after CCTV enquiries where conducted a male was arrested for multiple offences on the same day. These included, fraud by false representation because of the false number plates, going equipped for stealing, taking a motor vehicle without the owners consent, No insurance, driving not in accordance with a license and allowing a person to be carried likely to cause danger.

Antisocial behaviour can come in many forms and can require support from more organisations than just the police. There are 13 different types of antisocial behaviour that we may be able to help with, including abandoned vehicles, littering or drugs paraphernalia and street drinking.
