As autumn sets in, darker evenings and unsettled weather can pose additional risks to elderly and vulnerable members of our community. Please take note of the following safety advice: Check on Elderly Neighbours Regular visits or phone calls can help ensure they are safe, warm, and well-prepared for changing conditions. Prepare for Wet and Windy Weather Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast from Sunday evening through Monday Encourage vulnerable residents to stay indoors during poor weather and avoid unnecessary travel. Home Safety and Warmth Ensure homes are secure against wind and rain. Check that heating systems are working and that blankets and warm clothing are accessible. Safe Outdoor Movement If elderly residents must go out, help them plan safe routes and ensure they wear waterproof and visible clothing. Avoid walking during high winds or heavy rain. Emergency Contacts Make sure they have emergency numbers written down and stored in an easy-to-reach place. Consider helping them register for local support services. Medication and Essentials Offer help with collecting prescriptions, groceries, or other essentials to reduce the need for them to go out in poor weather or darkness. Report Concerns If you believe someone may be at risk, contact Greater Manchester Police via 101 or online. In emergencies, call 999. Community Support Makes a Difference Please share this advice and encourage others to look out for elderly neighbours. A safer Wardleworth starts with all of us.
