Since June, our Neighbourhood Policing Teams have registered around 1,000 bicycles with Bike Register in York – the UK’s national cycle database.

Thanks to funding secured through the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), we are able to offer this service completely free of charge (normally £12.99).

Bike Register has already proven highly successful in other counties, and since its launch here at North Yorkshire Police we’ve seen positive results, with several stolen cycles recovered and reunited with their rightful owners.

🔒 Cycle Crime Prevention Tips:

Always use a strong D-lock or chain lock and secure your bike to a fixed, immovable object.

Lock your bike in well-lit, busy areas whenever possible.

Keep a record of your bike’s make, model, and frame number.

Consider marking your bike with additional security tags for extra protection.

By registering and securing your bike, you’re helping us make it harder for thieves and easier to return bikes to their owners.
