Bar has licence revoked following persistent antisocial behaviour, Camborne |
||
A Cornwall bar has been banned from serving alcohol to customers after it became a hotspot for antisocial behaviour (ASB) in the town centre. On 4 July 2025, Cornwall Councils Licencing Sub Committee ordered for Soul Bar in Camborne to have its licence revoked following repeated reports to the police. Incidents included alcohol-fuelled ASB, violence, noise disturbances, licence breaches and suspected drug dealing and drug use. Police Inspector Lou Brown said: “I welcome this decision from the committee. It was clear to see the detrimental impact of the behaviour happening in and around the premises was having on locals. “This is not a decision that is taken lightly. Our ongoing efforts to work with the business owners in an attempt to reduce ASB were unsuccessful, so it was important that further action was taken.” The bar had previously been served with a closure order on 3 June, making it an offence for anyone to enter the premises for a three-month period, in an effort to prevent ASB. The licence revocation was supported by Devon & Cornwall Police Alcohol Licensing Team, the local Camborne Police Neighbourhood team, Cornwall’s Anti-Social Behaviour team and local residents. ASB officer, Kay Smith, who works for Cornwall Council said: “This has been an excellent demonstration of effective partnership working to bring about the closure which ultimately led to the permanent withdrawal of the premises license. “The positive effect the closure of this bar has had on local residents and business cannot be underestimated and we thank the public for their assistance in reporting to us; without these reports, we would not have been able to proceed.” Police Sergeant Dave Flynn, who works in the Alcohol Licensing team, said: "Our officers will continue to work with partners and the community to tackle premises that are considered not to be promoting the licensing objectives. We are grateful that the sub-committee took the decision to revoke the premises licence.” If you’re experiencing similar problems or are experiencing any behaviour that causes you distress or has a negative impact on the safety of the community, please report it to the police. You can report directly on the Devon & Cornwall Police website. If a crime is taking place, call 999. | ||
