I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. ⚠️ Community Safety Alert – Suspicious Locksmith Stickers ⚠️
Dear Residents,
We would like to bring to your attention a concerning issue that has been reported in our area.
Several homes have recently been found with small locksmith stickers placed near doors, gates, or letterboxes. While these may appear to be harmless advertisements, there is growing concern that such stickers could be used by criminals to mark properties for potential burglary.
These stickers may serve as a way to:
Identify homes that appear unoccupied or vulnerable. Signal to others that a property has been “scouted.” Create a false sense of legitimacy for unauthorized access. What You Can Do:
Remove any unfamiliar stickers immediately and report them. Stay vigilant and report suspicious activity to the police via 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. Check on neighbours, especially those who may be elderly or vulnerable. Consider installing or checking your home security systems. If you notice any unusual markings or stickers, please take a photo and report it to your local policing team. Your awareness and action can help keep our community safe.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Kind regards, Kearns Kalaben M – PCSO On behalf of the Safer Neighbourhood Team

While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
