Let’s take a moment to honour the incredible dedication of the 2 million people who work and volunteer across the NHS and emergency services. From paramedics to police officers, coastguards to cave rescuers – many are volunteers, and all are heroes.

There are 250,000 first responders in the UK – brave individuals who run toward danger when others run away.

Over the past 200 years, 7,500+ members of our emergency services have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. Today, we remember them.
