Selly Oak – Op Skybridge Deployment. 

Op Skybridge officers deployed to Selly Oak have had a busy few shifts, with some positive results we would like to share with you. 

On Monday 8th September, plain clothed officers witnessed two persons on E-scooters, riding up the High Street wearing balaclavas. The team were able to quickly contain and initially detain them, before they both turned and made off in the opposite direction. 

Plain clothed officers gave chase and uniformed officers were assisted by a local taxi driver who gave them a ride, enabling officers to apprehend one of the suspects and stop search him. He was reported for driving without insurance, failing to stop for police and his scooter was seized. 

Later on the same day, officers spotted a suspicious looking vehicle that was known to police. The vehicle was safely stopped and the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and failed to insure the vehicle too. He was arrested for drink driving and for driving without insurance. 

On 9th September 2025, plain clothed officers spotted a suspicious male trying car door handles, just off the Pershore Road. Again, the team were able to contain the area before a foot chase ensued with the suspect. He was safely detained before being arrested for vehicle interference. Checks on our systems also showed he was wanted for outstanding matters and he was further arrested for these. 

Skybridge officers have also provided a rapid response to three separate burglary alarms in the last 24 hours, arriving within a few minutes. Thankfully, they were all false alarms, but the response times achieved offered great reassurance to the homeowners. 

The team continues to operate in the area providing a presence on early mornings, and late nights, detecting and responding to criminality and seeking out those who intend on causing harm to your community.
