Attempted theft of a motor vehicle on Welford Road Shirley.

Incident details; Homeowner has noticed a dark coloured moped with a male wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

Another male was seen sitting in the homeowner’s vehicle.

Males were chased off after dropping a device which he was using to steal the vehicle.

Officers were at the scene after a short time where an area search was conducted for the moped.

Inquiries are ongoing, no registration plate was seen.

Officers from your local neighbourhood Policing Team will be conducting high visibility patrols in the area in a bid to prevent further offences and try to catch offenders. PLEASE CONSIDER INSTALLING A STEERING WHEEL LOCK ON YOUR VEHICLE, AS THIS CAN DETER VEHICLE OFFENDERS.

A steering wheel lock is a great deterrent against this kind of crime. Car alarms, immobilisers and trackers are also worth investing in. Good quality CCTV equipment covering your driveway is also a deterrent and can give officers valuable footage to assist with apprehending thieves.
