Local Priorities Mobile phone theft Message

I wanted to provide an update regarding Mobile phone theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

Do you know that one of the most common crimes in London are "phone snatches" where bad people, normally on electric pedal bikes, take advantage of distracted mobile phone users in the street to snatch their phones from they hands in the blink of an eye?

The good news is that, on patrol at Fortismere School in Fortis Green Ward last Friday, most of the students leaving the school were not distracted with their phones but socializing with their peers, aware of their surroundings, safely on the way home.

This is just an crime prevention advice to highlight the importance of being aware of your surroundings when it the streets. Your attention to the road users can prevent crimes to happen to yourself. Pay attention to bike users on the pavement and the road and put your phone away when walking on the pavement, or while waiting in the bus stop, to prevent being targeted by criminals.
