Scammers are constantly inventing new and clever tricks to steal your money! Too many to mention! The safest thing to remember is this, if you hear any of the following, hang up the phone. Scammer: “How much money is in your account?” Hang up the phone!Scammer: How many bank accounts do you have?" Hang up the phone!Scammer: “Tell me your PIN or online banking password.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “You owe unpaid tax and will be arrested today.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “Go buy gift cards and read me the numbers.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “We’re from your internet provider, let us access your computer.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “Don’t tell anyone about this call, keep it secret.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “You’ve won a prize, just give me your bank details.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “There’s a problem with your National Insurance number.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “Press 1 to connect to HMRC/Bank/Police.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “This is your bank, your card has been cloned. We’ll send a courier to collect it.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “We’ve noticed suspicious transactions on your account, you need to move your money to a saver account.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “You must pay an upfront fee to release your inheritance.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “Your Amazon/PayPal account has been hacked, give me your login details.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “There’s a warrant out for your arrest unless you pay today.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “You’ve been in an accident, we can claim compensation for you.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “Your computer has a virus, we’ll fix it if you let us in remotely.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “We’re offering you an exclusive investment with guaranteed returns.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “Your relative is in trouble and needs bail money now.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “We can reduce your energy bills today, just give us your bank details.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “You must pay a delivery fee before your parcel can be released.” Hang up the phone!Scammer: “Don’t hang up, this is urgent!” Hang up the phone!REMEMBER! If you feel you need to check with your bank, use a different phone to the one you were contacted on! The legitimate number is on the back of your credit/debit card. Never call the number the scammer gave you. |
