Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team Make Five Arrests in Busy Evening of Action |
||
The Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team were once again out in force this evening, taking firm action against those who continue to cause disruption and distress in the city centre.
This afternoon, officers arrested a male who had been abusive in one of the local bars. He has since been charged and bailed with strict conditions not to enter within 100 metres of Piccadilly Gardens.
Later, another male – identified as one of the area’s top 10 offenders – was arrested after attempting to make off with an officer’s handcuffs in the Gardens. This individual has been a persistent source of misery for the community in recent months.
In a separate incident, officers arrested a man under the influence of drugs on suspicion of attempting to sexually assault a female, as well as assaulting another man.
Two further arrests were made during the course of the evening: one prolific offender was detained on recall to prison, and another individual was taken into custody for possession of an offensive weapon.
Speaking after the night’s policing operation, Sergeant Jon Wyatt of the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
“Tonight’s operation has resulted in a total of five arrests in what has been another busy evening for the team. We remain committed to targeting those who cause misery for local businesses and the good-willed public who simply want to enjoy the area. Our presence will continue, and action will be taken against those who choose to bring disorder and harm into our city centre.”
