Counterfeit Currency in Circulation

Pleased be advised that police officers from the Falkirk/Grangemouth area have been made aware that there is currently numerous fake £20 notes in circulation. Over the past week there has been multiple calls to police regarding these notes and local police continue to carry out enquiry into the matter.

Meantime, we ask that members of the public- and in particular local business- remain vigilant in inspecting bank notes for authenticity. This can be done by specialised machine/ UV light or by visually inspecting using the “FEEL, LOOK, TILT” method - i.e feel for raised print and the smooth polymer, look for see-through window with a portrait and a foil patch, and tilting the note to see holographic images and colour changing features. 

Any information regarding the fake notes can be passed to police through the usual channels.
