To secure your motorcycle, use multiple high-quality security devices, such as a Sold Secure Gold rated chain and disc lock, to deter thieves. Park in a well-lit, visible location or a secure garage. Always use the steering lock, keep the bike covered, and consider a GPS tracker and security markings to make your bike less of a target and easier to recover if stolen. Did you see or hear anything suspicious? You can let us know by ringing 101 and quoting crime reference 01/7923404/25. You can also provide information anonymously to Crime Stoppers on Freephone 0800 555 111. 100% anonymous Always
Please do not use MET Engage Alert to report a crime or something else that requires police attention as we are unable to log details via this system.
Physical Deterrents Use multiple locks: Employ two different types of locks, such as a disc lock and a chain, to slow down thieves.
Secure to an immovable object: Use a heavy-duty chain lock to fix your motorcycle to a ground anchor or street furniture, securing it through the frame and the rear wheel.
Keep the lock off the ground: A taut chain that is not dragging on the ground is harder for thieves to attack with tools.
Install a disc lock: Use a disc lock on the rear brake disc to prevent the wheel from being wheeled away.
Use a GPS tracker: This can significantly increase the chances of your motorcycle being recovered if it's stolen.
Apply security markings: Mark your motorbike's frame and parts with its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or registration number, preferably with an ultraviolet pen, to make it harder to sell and easier to identify if stolen.
Location & Environment Park in a visible, well-lit location: A busy, well-lit area with good visibility is a strong deterrent.
Store in a garage or shed: The safest place for your motorcycle at home is in a garage or shed.
Upgrade garage security: Consider fitting a garage door defender, upgrading your locks, or installing a garage alarm.
Use a motorcycle cover: A cover conceals the make and model of your bike, making it a less obvious target for thieves.
Best Practices Engage the steering lock: Always activate your motorcycle's steering lock, as many thefts involve breaking it and wheeling the bike away.
Remove the keys: Always remove the ignition key when you leave your motorcycle.
Don't leave documents on the bike: Keep ownership documents in a safe place at home, not in the bike's storage.
