Saddleworth Moors partnership

Following on from our work to advise on, prevent and prosecute ASB and fires on the moors, we have begun working with local partners to get a police presence out on the more traditionally inaccessible areas on the moorlands around Saddleworth and Holmfirth.

In addition to working with colleagues in West Yorkshire police to ensure our efforts are coordinated, we are also exploring using equipment in use by the RSPB and utilities providers to increase our off road abilities to tackle rural issues such as damage to protected moorlands, fire, ASB use of vehicles, raptor persecution and other wildlife and rural issues that crop up in a manner that is cost effective and ensures conservation of the environment.

This will be an ongoing effort to address what is currently an under-reported area of crime but is anecdotally an issue for the locals.
