Police uncover large-scale cannabis factory in Bedford nightclub

Earlier this week, we supported the force’s specialist Drug Focus Desk to execute a warrant at a nightclub in the town centre.

Upon entry we located what is easily one of the largest cannabis factories discovered in the town. Spread across multiple floors, almost 2000 plants fuelling drug activity and criminality across Bedford and beyond.

Sure – we have our own means and tactics for locating illegal grows like this, but sometimes it takes a ‘good angel’ to spot something that isn’t quite right and do something about it.

There are some tell-tale signs of an active cannabis factory. They include:

Frequent visitors to a property at unsociable hours throughout the day and night.

Blacked out windows or condensation on the windows, even when it is not cold outside.

Bright lights in rooms throughout the night.

Electricity meters being tampered with/altered and new cabling, sometimes leading to street lighting.

A powerful, distinctive, sweet, sickly aroma and noise from fans.

Lots of work or deliveries of equipment to an address, particularly those associated with growing plants indoors without soil such as heaters and lighting.

Excessive rubbish, including plant pots, chemical containers, fertiliser bags and compost.
