Local Priorities Nuisance motorbikes / Scooters Update

Dear Resident,

Thank you for taking the local priority survey recently, your ongoing feedback about local issues of concern is vital in order to enable us to target resources effectively. Although you did not raise Nuisance motorbikes / Scooters as a concern in your last feedback, this issue has been raised by other members of your local area so we thought you would also like to receive this update.

Over the weekend, another successful partnership operation has taken place between neighbourhood teams and Cardiff councils off-road team. Operation Green Horizon aims to tackle the use of illegal bikes/scooters on green spaces and the highway around Cardiff.

Hot spot locations were patrolled and bike seizures were seen across Penylan, Rumney, Llanrumney and Pentwyn. 3 illegal mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs), 1 suron bike, 2 e-scooters and 1 vehicle was seized during the operation. All will be sent for destruction.

Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police.

February 2025 saw the publication of the Ministry of Justice Crime and Policing Bill: Antisocial behaviour (ASB) factsheet. This outlined a number of new measures including making powers to seize vehicles under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 easier to use, allowing the police to react robustly and immediately to the anti-social use of motor vehicles.
