Welcome to my August update for the residents and communities of the Spinney Hill, St Matthews and Charnwood Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.

#YouSaid - What matters to you

Our priorities have not changed since last month; they remain as follows:

ROAD SAFETY:

From responses on Neighbourhood Link Surveys and from speaking to individuals in the community, it has been identified that road safety including parking, use of off-road bikes, e-bikes, and speeding are a concern for residents living in the beat area.

ASB:

There is anti-social behaviour in St Peters Estate tower blocks including drug use, drug dealing.

SERIOUS VIOLENCE:

Violent crime is the highest reported crime on the Spinney Hill beat, although reports did reduce from March to June 2025.

#WeDid - What we are doing

ROAD SAFETY

PCSOs have attended community engagements over the summer in Highfields and St Matthews including Parks Days and beat Surgeries, with more surgeries planned in September. Reports of issues in the area have been passed to officers and we are focusing our patrols in the locations identified.  Any further advice around e-bikes, crime prevention and road safety can be obtained at the community events or online.

Officers on 16 beat which covers Spinney Hill Park, St Matthews and Charnwood will continue high visibility patrols in the area and where any suspects are found to be behaving/driving in an antisocial or illegal manner they will be dealt with robustly.

ASB:

We have increased our patrols in the tower blocks.  We are also working with partner agencies, in particular Housing, to address issues with problem tenants.

SERIOUS VIOLENCE:

We remain committed to high visibility patrols on the beat and working with partner agencies to safeguard those most vulnerable of knife related crime. This includes those at risk of being a perpetrator of knife crime or being a victim of a knife enabled crime.
