Hello Resident, We have recently come across phone snatches and attempted phone snatches whilst out on our patrols, particularly on Norwood Road, so we are sending this alert today to help protect yourself from mobile phone theft. Here are some tips on keeping your phone and other personal devices safe: Only take out your device when you feel it's safe to do so. We advise against using your device in a crowded area unless absolutely necessary. When using your phone, have your phone in your hand furthest away from the road.Set up a lock screen to prevent thieves from easily access your personal data. For example, you can use a PIN, passcode, pattern or biometrics to secure your mobile device.Take a note of your device's IMEI number, somewhere other than on your phone. You can obtain this by typing *#06# into your phone, or via the phone's Settings application. You can also find this number on the SIM card tray and on the original packaging of your device. Making a note of this number will aid us greatly should your phone get stolen.Use a phone tracker or NFC tag on another device to track your stolen device and receive an approximate location of where your stolen device is located. You can also share this information with police, so this is beneficial to know.Hide notification previews from appearing whilst your phone is locked. This will prevent thieves from seeing sensitive information on your device. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask us. If your phone gets stolen, call 999 or report online at the first possible instance. Kind regards, West Dulwich Safer Neighbourhood Team |
