Monthly rural update

Hello once again everybody, for those of you that are viewing my posts for the first time welcome, I am the local neighbourhood team for Rural Solihull, for those of you that have read my updates before, thank you for returning.

August has been a good month for your neighbourhood team, we have seriously disrupted a several groups of criminality that target our area for their nefarious exploits. Our priorities as a neighbourhood policing team continue to be tackling vehicle crime, burglary and anti-social behaviour. With the summer holidays in full swing during August, we have prioritised focusing our visible foot and vehicle patrols during the early evening at the locations where historically ASB has been a hotspot for our neighbourhood. This includes Knowle high street, resorts world / the NEC and Balsall common high street. By focusing our patrol, we have managed to identify several youths who are responsible for causing anti social behaviour and we are in the process of speaking with their parents, issuing banning notices and entering acceptable behaviour contracts with them at the moment.

As the children begin to return to school, we will shift our patrols to focus on providing visible deterrents to ASB both before and after school in the appropriate areas as well as focusing on ASB hot spots in the evening.

We will continue to use crime trend statistics to identify areas that are being targeted by offenders and increase visibility in those areas to prevent offending, we also offer target hardening advice to ensure that your belongings are as well protected as they can be.

We will soon have a beat surgery set up in each of our wards (currently Marston Green is still in the preparation stage) and I would encourage all to come along and meet our team to one of these events if you can. Search Rurals on the west midlands police internet page for a full list of our upcoming community engagements.

Our team is focused on improving the sense of pride for all those who live in rural Solihull, should you wish to know more about us or wish to get in touch, then you can do so by following the below link.

This month we have executed 4 warrants with the assistance of other departments within west midlands police, and have disrupted a group that have been prominent for criminal behaviour on our area. We have located a cannabis factory with over 100 plants inside and the persons involved are currently being dealt with through the criminal justice process.

This month we have also arrested 2 persons for multiple theft of motor vehicles from the Airport and NEC complex. They had been targeting Land rovers and 4x4 pick ups trucks, again they are now being processed through the criminal justice system and our vehicles are a little bit safer.

A prolific offender for shop theft of multiple different shops has also been arrested. Officers worked hard to gather all the evidence to secure the charge for 7 offences. Shop theft can affect not just the shops and the staff that work there, but other shoppers who might witness the incidents. We hope to help protect the shops more by arresting these prolific offenders and making this area a safer place to live and work.

We on the rural team realise that it is not only the big crimes that affect you as a community and we put just as much effort into the little things that make our community such a nice place to live. A vehicle was spotted throwing litter out of the window on multiple occasions causing a nuisance to nearby residents. After collecting CCTV footage, we were able to identify the vehicle and work alongside the council to get a fixed penalty notice served to the keeper of the vehicle.

If you are aware of any offenders or offending going on in our community, please get in touch with us, or visit crime stoppers via the link below should you wish to remain anonymous

Another great way to help improve the safety of our area is to register your CCTV with us. This will help us to investigate and identify offenders more quickly and to improve our chances of bringing them to justice

Finally Thank you to all the volunteers that have joined our team on patrols and with our Street Watch’s as well as the Speed Watch’s. We are in the process of setting up further street and speed watches, but we need your help and the more volunteers from our community that we get, the greater our chances of success in combating ASB, crime and improving road safety. This is very much your community and we want to involve you in making it safer. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us on the link below

For now though thank you once again for taking the time to read through my message and I look forward to working with you all to keep Rural Solihull safe.

Best wishes and kindest regards
