VULNERABLE, MISSING MALE FOUND

#HerbertProtocol | Earlier today, officers were alerted to a report of a missing elderly male in Rugeley, known to be living with dementia.

Thanks to the swift response and excellent local knowledge of our team—particularly Special Sergeant Kevin Lee—the individual was located safely and quickly.

Following the incident, appropriate safeguarding referrals have been made to ensure both he and his family receive the support they need.

To help prevent future occurrences, the family has now been provided with a Herbert Protocol form.

🤔 What is the Herbert Protocol?

The Herbert Protocol is a safeguarding initiative designed to assist emergency services in locating vulnerable individuals who go missing, especially those living with dementia. The protocol is named in memory of George Herbert, a war veteran with dementia who sadly passed away after going missing while searching for his childhood home.

📑 How it works:

-The form is completed in advance by a family member, carer, or friend.
-It is kept securely at home or in a care setting and only shared with police if the person goes missing.
-It enables a faster police response, reduces stress for families, and improves the chances of a safe recovery.
-It also helps emergency services use their resources more effectively.
