Woman charged following fire

A woman has been charged following a flat fire in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Julia Sherratt, 59, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life, three counts of assaulting a constable in their execution of duty and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

It comes after officers were called at 5.50am on Tuesday (26 August) to Birch House Road, Crackley, Newcastle-under-Lyme, following reports of a fire at a block of flats.

Sherratt has been remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (Thursday 28 August).
