Bulletin 16 August 14th – August 27th 2025
There have been a number of ATM distraction thefts outside Lloyds Bank in Station Road, Caterham over the last year , including two in the last 14 days,and there have been occurrences elsewhere in Tandridge Borough from time to time.
Please be vigilant when using cash machines and tell police immediately if you see anything unusual or anyone acting suspiciously.
✔️Check the machine to see if there is anything stuck to it or anything looks unusual about it. If there is, do not use the machine – report it to the police or bank immediately. ✔️Do not let anyone see you input your PIN. Use your free hand to cover the PIN pad to prevent anyone seeing your PIN as you key it in. ✔️If you are interrupted or distracted by anyone when using an ATM, cancel the transaction and try to recover the card. ✔️If the machine does not return your card, report it immediately to your card issuer. ✔️Tell your bank immediately if you notice anything unusual on your statements.

CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
Our Neighbourhood Patrol Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team deal with a variety of incidents. Here are a few they dealt with since the last Bulletin.
There were 35 Arrests in the period August 11th to August 25th 2025 : Domestic Abuse / Violent Domestic Abuse15 , Harassment 1 , Prescribed Limit 1 , Violent Crime Other 4 , Sexual Offence 3 , Alcohol/ Drug Related 2 , Breach of Bail 2, Immigration 2, Vehicle Crime 2, Child at Risk 1, Public Order 2, . On August 12th, after receiving reports of a stolen Nissan Navara from Reigate, officers spotted the vehicle and a Nissan Juke believed to be the mission vehicle which was also suspected as stolen. After a short pursuit the Nissan Juke was stopped in Godstone and 5 persons decamped. Two males were quickly arrested and charges have been authorised against the driver for aggravated vehicle taking and driving whilst disqualified. The other male has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, possession of cannabis and of an offensive weapon. Following a search of this male’s home he has also been charged with possession of an article for use in fraud (registration plate printer), possession of cannabis and possession of an offensive weapon.

Vehicle Crime
Blackthorn Close, Godstone – Arson. Around 23.49 August 22nd a black BMW X3 suspected stolen was set alight and destroyed (PR452500103521).
Oxted Road, Godstone – Criminal Damage. Overnight August 22nd to 23rd the back window of a car was smashed (PR45250103588).
OXTED AND TANDRIDGE
Burglary Residential including sheds and garages
Miles Lane, Tandridge. Around 18.20 August 24th a male attempted to break into a garage after breaking into a van and attempting to steal tools (PR45250104147).
Vehicle Crime
Gordons Way, Oxted – Theft. Between 00.00 August 23rd and 00.00 August 24th a red Mini Cooper index LF18AEE was stolen (PR45250104014).
CATERHAM, CATERHAM ON THE HILL, CHALDON AND WHYTELEAFE
Burglary Residential including sheds and garages Milner Road, Caterham On The Hill. Between 04.00 and o5.00 August 18th the informant heard loud footsteps coming up the steps of a property and on looking out saw torches followed by the sound of someone trying to break into a shed. After opening a window and making a noise the noise of a car moving away was heard. Nothing was stolen from the shed (PR45250101426).
The Heath, Chaldon. Around 16.10 August 19th a group of 7 youths smashed the windows of a vacant property and severely damaged the front door before entering it. Nothing was stolen as the property had been empty for a considerable period (PR45250102152).
Theft Godstone Road, Whyteleafe.Around 17.00 August 25th two young males were forced to hand over their mobile phones. Initially they were escorted in to two shops by two boys where attempts were made to make them purchase items but both shopkeepers refused. Boy 1 was described as white around 15 to 17 years old, approximately 5’ 10” tall and of slim build. He had acne on his cheeks and was wearing a dark Nike tracksuit and a white balaclava. Boy 2 was tanned and of an Arabic background, around 16 to 17 years old, approximately 5’ 10” to 6’ tall. He was of slim build and wearing a full black Nike tracksuit and black balaclava. His hair was believed to be styled in some kind of plat and he had dark black hair, a moustache and a patchy goatee beard (PR45250104423).
Distraction Theft Station Avenue, Caterham. Around 11am August 14th the victim was at a cash point outside Lloyds Bank. After entering her card and inputting her PIN an unknown male advised her the ATM was broken and offered to help. Whilst distracting the victim with lots of paperwork another male managed to withdraw £500 cash and take to bank card. They left the scene and the victim thought the card was still in the ATM. Suspect 1 was described as of white Mediterranean appearance, age 30’s, height 5’ 10” , stocky, dark hair, black beard, scruffy looking, football top, jeans and carrying some paperwork. Suspect 2 was of white Mediterranean appearance, 30’s, 5’ 10” tall, stocky and no beard (PR45250099836). Around 13.40 August 26th there was a further incident at the same ATM when the victim put a bank card into the machine and a male started trying to correct the victim and holding paper around the keypad’ He was shoved away by the victim and another member of the public. This male was described as black, 6 ft. tall, about 25 years of age, dressed in black tracksuit trousers and a hoodie and a black covid type face mask (PR45250104674).
Vehicle Crime Tillingdown Hill, Caterham – Theft. Overnight August 21st to 22nd index plates LD53LWH were stolen from a car (PR45250103287).
WARLINGHAM AND TATSFIELD
Burglary Residential including sheds and garages Ricketts Hill Road, Tatsfield. Overnight August 21st to 22nd someone tried to prise open the door of a garage but nothing was taken although the door was badly damaged (PR45250103252).
Tithepit Shaw Lane, Warlingham. Around 03.32 August 18th a crowbar type tool was used in an attempt to prise open a garage door by two males (PR45250103935).
Vehicle Crime
Bond Road, Warlingham – Theft. Between 11.00 and 11.15 August 21st approximately £2,500 of power tools were stolen from a vehicle by four suspects all male, wearing all black clothing and balaclavas. They were driving a silver blue Audi A3on stolen index plates OE09YZV. These plates had been stolen from a car in Church Road, Whytleafe a short time earlier (PR45250102763).
Beddlestead Lane, Warlingham. Around 21.00 August 22nd three males were seen attempting to set fire to a car which was then found to have been stripped of various parts and was later identified as having been stolen in Croydon (PR45250103413).
