Tackling Summer ASB

As we move into the second month of our summer ASB initiative, the team has continued to take proactive steps to address concerns and reassure the community:

  • Targeted Patrols: Daily dedicated patrols have been deployed around Museum Square and New Walk, engaging with members of the public and local residents to provide visible reassurance and gather feedback.

  • Section 59 Warnings: Officers have issued multiple Section 59 Warning Notices to vehicles involved in anti-social behaviour. Repeat offenders have had their vehicles seized, with several recovered due to non-compliance.

  • Youth Engagement: Officers have attended programmes such as the Youth Engagement Programme (YEP), offering advice on ASB and answering questions from young people.

  • PSPO Enforcement: Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) have been robustly enforced, particularly around alcohol consumption in public spaces.

  • Reducing Vehicle Crime

To tackle vehicle-related offences, the team has taken the following actions:

  • Beat Surgeries: Continued public engagement through beat surgeries to educate on safeguarding personal belongings and vehicles, especially in car parks.

  • Joint-Agency Collaboration: A multi-agency meeting was held to address repeat locations and explore collaborative strategies to deter vehicle crime.

  • Priority Arrests: Arrests have been prioritised for repeat offenders, with strict bail conditions imposed to prevent reoffending.

  • Disrupting Drug Supply

Building on last month’s success, the beat team has intensified efforts to disrupt drug activity:

  • Enhanced Patrols: Increased support from specialist departments has enabled high-visibility patrols in the Cultural Quarter to deter drug dealing.

  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Individuals: The team continues to work closely with partner agencies to identify individuals vulnerable to exploitation and ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are in place.
