Winter fuel scams

As the cooler months are approaching I have been made aware that the Winter fuel payment scams are back and being sent via text messages and phone calls. If you are eligible to receive a payment then you do not need to click any links or reply to any messages. Payments will be made automatically. 

 

What to do if you receive a message..

 

  • Stop and Think Fraud
  • Do not click a link
  • Do not fill in any of your personal details   
  • Report the message through the Action Fraud Website or you can forward the text to 7726 spam for free. 
  • Forward the email to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk
  • Share the warning with friends and family especially those who you feel maybe at risk. 
  • Delete the message 
  •  

    What to do if you feel you have been scammed..

  • Please try not to panic but contact your bank immediately 
  • Report, Report, Report 
  • Please tell family members and friends
  • Remember you are not the first person to have made a mistake and you will not be the last.
