πŸ” Shed Security

  • Use a Strong Lock

    • Fit a closed shackle padlock or a hasp and staple lock with coach bolts.

    • Consider a shed alarm β€” many are inexpensive and motion-activated.

  • Reinforce Doors and Hinges

    • Use hinge bolts or security screws to prevent doors being unscrewed.

    • Add a security bar across the inside of the door for extra strength.

  • Secure Windows

    • Fit wire mesh or grills inside windows.

    • Use frosted film to obscure the view of valuables inside.

  • 🧰 Tool and Equipment Protection

  • Mark Your Tools

    • Use UV pens, engraving, or forensic marking kits like SmartWater or SelectaDNA.

    • Clearly label with your postcode and allotment plot number.

  • Lock Tools Away

    • Store tools in a lockable cabinet or box inside the shed.

    • Avoid leaving tools out overnight β€” they can be used to break into the shed.

  • Record Serial Numbers

    • Keep a list of serial numbers and photos of valuable items.

    • Register them on www.immobilise.com β€” a free national property register.

  • 🌱 General Allotment Safety

  • Install Lighting or Solar Motion Sensors

    • Even basic solar-powered lights can deter intruders.

  • Fencing and Gates

    • Ensure perimeter fencing is secure and gates are locked when not in use.

    • Consider planting thorny bushes like hawthorn or pyracantha along boundaries.

  • To assist us in identifying stolen property please consider property marking high value items using Forensic Marking or UV pens.  You are also advised to register property at www.immobilise.com which is a free on-line property register used by police forces nationwide to reunite stolen goods to their owners. All you have to do is register on-line and then upload properties electrical items serial numbers.

If you have a burglar alarm ensure it is set and working.

Please also find attached the Police Crime Prevention Handbook which covers a broad range of crime prevention advice.
