Local Priorities Burglary's- Residential

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Burglary - Residential, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

We’d like to remind everyone of the importance of keeping your homes and vehicles secure. Unfortunately, opportunistic theft is becoming more common, and many incidents happen because doors, windows, or cars are left unlocked.

Why it matters:

🚪 Unlocked doors and windows give thieves an easy way in, often without making noise or drawing attention.
🚗 Unlocked vehicles are frequently targeted for valuables, even if nothing is visible inside.
🏘️ A secure neighbourhood deters criminals. When every home is locked up, the area becomes less appealing to offenders.

Simple steps to protect your property:
Always lock all doors and windows, even when you’re at home. Remove keys from inside locks and keep them out of sight.
Lock your car and remove or hide valuables.
Install security lights, cameras, or window alarms if possible.
Report suspicious behaviour to the police 101/999

A few extra seconds to double-check your locks can save you from stress, loss, and inconvenience. Let’s work together to keep our community safe and secure.

Operation Defender is Lancashire Constabulary’s response to domestic burglaries. It aims to locate and arrest offenders, take positive action to reduce residential burglary through crime prevention advice, and to safeguard and support victims of crime, keeping them at the heart of investigations.

Residents reporting home burglaries can expect a visit from their local police to provide a site assessment and advice to improve further burglaries.

If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.lancashire.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online webpage Home - Lancashire Constabulary - Report Online or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
