NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL

Notting Hill Carnival is London’s most renowned heritage celebration. It is also one of the busiest times for policing in London, and with close to two million people flocking to the area, it is of great importance to your local policing teams to address local concerns. Over the weekend local officers from across Kensington & Chelsea where deployed to address those important community concerns. With the staffing of a dedicated phone line between 8am-8pm, we were able to respond directly to issues impacting those that live and work within the Carnival area.

Over the weekend, we worked with our partners in RBKC and the Home Office in deploying Knife Amnesty Bins – we recovered 16 knives from the streets of Kensington & Chelsea through this scheme. This scheme serves to ensure you, and the wider public are safe from harm.

Safer Neighbourhood Officers from Chelsea supported their colleagues in Notting Hill by providing enhanced policing presence across the two day event. We recognise that that meant fewer local officers in Chelsea, however we ensured a 20% uplift in Emergency Response Officers, making sure the remainder of Kensington & Chelsea were not at determent.

Last year, a large number of anti-social behaviour reports were received noting pre and post Carnival gatherings across Chelsea, attracting crime and anti-social behaviour – this year, we are pleased to report that no Carnival related crime/anti-social behaviour reports have been received.
