Local Priorities Shoplifting Message

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

Officers from Greenhill SNT were on patrol in Harrow Town Centre when they detained and arrested a prolific shoplifter who had been linked to three previous instances of theft in the town centre. The suspect had stolen over £400 worth of items in short succession and had further breached the conditions of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

Thanks to the swift intervention of our officers and the completion of an effective initial investigation which included obtaining relevant CCTV footage and statements from key witnesses, the suspect was found guilty at court on all counts. He has since been sentenced to 26 weeks in prison and given a surcharge of £154.00. We will continue to work with Harrow BID and local businesses throughout Harrow Town Centre who are affected by shoplifting.

Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
