Man charged after a suspicious object was found in Borehamwood

Detectives investigating the discovery of a suspicious object in Borehamwood on Saturday 16 August, have charged and remanded a man in connection with the incident.

Yesterday (Thursday 21 August) evening, Robert Kovacs, aged 38, of Tenby Road, Edgware, was charged with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Making an explosive substance with intent to endanger life / injure property
  • Doing an act with intent to cause an explosion likely to endanger life / injure property.

    Kovacs was remanded into custody following a court appearance this morning ahead of his next court appearance at St Albans Magistrates Court on Monday 8 September.

    Police were called to an address on Saturday following reports that a suspicious object had been located. 

     

    A 38-year-old woman from Borehamwood was also arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail with strict conditions, while enquiries continue.

     

    Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, who is leading the investigation, said: “I understand that the news of this incident has caused concern among the local community. We believe this to be an isolated incident, involving parties known to one of the suspects and there is no intelligence to suggest any wider threat to the public.”

     

    “I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal to the public for any information that may assist our enquiries.

     

    “If you remember noticing anything suspicious in the Cowley Hill area between Friday 15 August and Saturday 16 August, or have any information that may help, please contact us.”
