New dates for walk and talk women’s safety events |
||
More dates have been announced for the popular ‘Walk and Talk’ women’s safety events hosted by the Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team.
The walks have been organised as part of the constabulary’s ongoing work to tackle MVAWG (male violence against women and girls).
The events, led by female PCs and PCSOs, start with a 20-30 minute walk followed by an opportunity to stay for a chat or to continue exercising in a safe environment.
The first pilot event took place on Monday 14 July at 7pm in King George V Playing Field and was met with huge enthusiasm from the public.
More events have now been planned for the following dates: Inspector Amy Sheldon, who leads the Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Our first event was met with lots of support so we have organised more. They are an opportunity to make friends and exercise as well as gain advice from the police on matters relating to women and girls’ safety.
“Our October event will be a bit different as it will start at the Knife Angel which is visiting Welwyn Garden City for the month. The sculpture serves as a powerful reminder of the negative impact of all violence, including that against women and girls.
“We’ve also chosen White Ribbon Day for the November event. This is a national day of recognition where men show their year-long commitment to ending violence against women and girls. In the spirit of the day, I hope that they will help us to spread the word about these events to their wives, sisters, mothers and other women in their lives.
“Tackling male violence against women and girls is really important to us and I hope these events once again prove helpful to those looking for a safe place to exercise and make friends.”
