Got a group ride planned for this weekend?

The forecast looks promising for another sunny spell, and we know Derbyshire’s stunning roads will be calling to bikers from near and far.

Whether you're cruising to Matlock Bath or venturing further afield, it’s important to remember that the risks remain the same.

Last year, 90% of biker fatalities within Derbyshire were due to rider error. It’s a tough stat to hear, but in Derbyshire, the most common causes are riders losing control on bends, riders engaging in poor overtaking manoeuvres, and bikers using excessive speed.

So before you hit the road, take a moment to think about how you're riding.

Even if you're an experienced rider, your decisions matter. Know which risks are worth taking, and whether your mates can keep up. If they can’t, that’s okay. But it’s worth reminding them that every biker is responsible for their own actions, and the consequences that those actions may bring.

Only you control your bike. Only you decide what risks are worth it.

To help you ride smarter we’ve created the Bikers’ Hub, a space packed with useful tips and advice for the biking community: http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/TheBikersHub
