Theft of Pedal Cycles

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle Crime - theft from / theft of, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

The St Thomas Neighbourhood Policing Team felt the need to reach out and inform you that there has been an increase in thefts of pedal cycles of late. Areas that have been targeted on multiple occasions include the bike racks and sheds around Gunwharf Quays and Cambridge Road. As always we do our best to prevent thefts from happening but there are some things you, the public, can do to help us and protect your property!

Bike thefts can happen in under a minute – but a few smart steps can make a big difference. If you're cycling around Portsmouth here’s how to keep your bike safe:

✅ Use a strong D-lock and secure both the frame and wheels
✅ Lock your bike to a solid, immovable object
✅ Park in well-lit, busy areas – avoid quiet corners
✅ Register your bike with https://orlo.uk/RwBSl
✅ Take photos of your bike and note the serial number
✅ Report suspicious activity to your local PCSOs or call 999 in the event of a crime in action

We’re out on patrol and happy to offer advice – just stop and say hello! Let’s work together to keep our community safe and bikes where they belong: with their owners. 🚴
