From Foot Chase to Court Case

Officers from the Piccadilly Gardens Policing Team made further arrests today as part of their ongoing work to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in the gardens.

The team arrested another for breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), following a lively foot chase through the Gardens. After PC Hare’s exploits yesterday, this time it was PC Marothi who showed a clean pair of heels, catching the suspect quickly and safely.

In addition, PC Duffy arrested another individual found to be in breach of their court bail conditions, and a prolific beggar—who is known to have a permanent home address—was also detained by PC Simm. That individual has since been charged and bailed to attend court.

Alongside today’s enforcement activity, the team confirmed that they are actively seeking new Criminal Behaviour Orders against persistent offenders. These measures are designed not only to remove individuals who repeatedly cause disruption in Piccadilly Gardens but also to ensure that those in need are directed towards support services to help tackle underlying issues such as substance misuse, homelessness, and mental health.

Sergeant Jon Wyatt of the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood team said:

“Criminal Behaviour Orders are a vital tool in helping us protect Piccadilly Gardens from repeat offenders. They give us the power to remove individuals who continually cause disruption, while also giving offenders the chance to access support and hopefully break the cycle. And if you think you can outrun us — think again.”

Today’s results demonstrate the team’s commitment to keeping Piccadilly Gardens safe. Whether through swift arrests, securing CBOs, or working with partners to provide support, officers are determined to reduce crime and ensure the space can be enjoyed by the whole community — even if it occasionally requires a bit of sprinting.
