Between the hours of 14:00 on 18th August and 14:00 on 19th August a burglary has taken place on Evergreen Avenue, Colburn.

Here are some preventative tips to help safeguard your home and vehicle:

1.Secure Your Home

Install Deadbolts: - Ensure that all exterior doors have high-quality deadbolts. This offers added security compared to standard locks.

Use a Security System: - Consider investing in a home security system, which may include alarms, cameras, and motion sensors. Visible security cameras can also deter potential burglars.

Keep Windows Locked: - Make it a habit to check that all windows are properly locked before leaving your home or going to bed.

2.Enhance Outdoor Security

Install Motion-Activated Lights: -Bright lights around entry points can discourage unwanted visitors. Consider placing them near entrances, driveways, and garages.

Maintain Your Landscaping: - Trim shrubs and trees, especially those near windows and entryways, to reduce hiding spots for burglars.

Use Fencing Wisely: - A well-built fence can deter intruders. Ensure that gates are locked and secure.

4.Be Smart with Your Privileges:

Ask a Neighbour for Help: - If you are going on holiday, inform a trusted neighbour. They can keep an eye on your property, collect mail, and even park in your driveway to create the appearance that someone is home.

5.Secure Your Vehicle:

Lock Your Doors and Windows: - This may seem obvious but ensuring that all doors and windows are closed and locked is a fundamental step in preventing theft.

Park in Well-Lit Areas: - When parking in public spaces, seek out well-lit areas or secure parking lots. Consider using a garage if possible.

Remove Valuables: - Never leave valuables in plain sight inside your vehicle. Always take them with you or store them out of view.
