Dear Resident
The Community Safety Hub works as a partnership between North Yorkshire Council, North Yorkshire Police, and with other services to reduce anti- social behaviour, crime, and disorder across North Yorkshire.
We have recently been advised that residents have raised concerns to North Yorkshire Police and to North Yorkshire Council regarding use of powered scooters and unregistered electric bikes.
Current UK legislation means many of these devices are unable to be insured yet count as a motor vehicle. They are not legal in public places, on roads or on footpaths. To check if devices are legal, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules
North Yorkshire Police are already aware of some reports and appropriate action is being taken, however further reports will enable them to identify times, dates and locations where there is most risk. Many riders have displayed a dangerous lack of awareness for other road users and for members of public attempting to cross the road. Please take a moment to consider safe crossing if these riders are evident and report to North Yorkshire Police if you have any safety concerns.
Please report any concerns to North Yorkshire Police using 999 in an emergency, or 101 if the incident if not an emergency, alternatively you may wish to use the QR code which will direct you to the online reporting pages.
If you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Community Safety Hub for the Hambleton locality at safer.ham@northyorks.gov.uk
Your faithfully Community Safety Hub (Hambleton)
