Red Flag Green Flag Event

Hello Resident,

Yesterday officers from the local Beat Team and your Community Liaison Officer hosted an event at County Square Shopping Centre in Ashford. This was attended by local partners such as The Rising Sun, Kent CDAP (Community Domestic Abuse Programme) and Ashford Borough Council. The event focussed on promoting healthy relationships and identifying what is a “Red Flag” and what is a “Green Flag”. The event attracted a lot of positive engagement with people visiting the shopping centre.

An example of what could be a “red flag” in a relationship would be:

  • Demanding passwords to your devices
  • They try and dictate what you wear, who you talk to and how you spend your time
  • Gaslighting - making you doubt your own memory, feelings or sanity.
  • Disrespecting your boundaries
  • Physical violence
  • Examples of green flags would be:

  • Open communication. They listen actively, express themselves honestly and encourage you to do the same
  • They honour your need for space, privacy, and autonomy without guilt-tripping or pushing.
  • They cheer you on in your goals and celebrate your wins, big or small.
  • They show compassion when you're struggling and try to understand your perspective
  •

For further guidance and support around domestic abuse please visit the Rising Sun website: How can I stay safe? | Rising Sun and/or the Kent Police website: Advice about domestic abuse | Kent Police

    Kind regards
