Commissioner joins local police and MP for community walkaround in Fleetwood

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, joined the local policing team in Fleetwood alongside Lorraine Beavers, Member of Parliament for the Blackpool North and Fleetwood constituency, for a walkabout in Fleetwood to discuss key issues affecting the town and surrounding areas.

Together they walked the beat in Fleetwood town centre, addressing concerns such as anti-social behaviour, the illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters, retail crime including shoplifting, and the importance of community policing in tackling these challenges.

They visit included a stop at the Heart of the Hub community café, based in the re-purposed former NHS Hospital on North Albert Street. The café is helping to improve mental health, promote social inclusion and build friendships and networks.

They also visited the Fleetwood Town Community Trust Youth Hub, which is bringing together partners to engage and support young people.

The visit also highlighted the work happening locally to deliver on the national Safer Streets Summer initiative, which focuses on high-visibility policing and collaborative efforts to reduce crime in town centres.

Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner said:

“It’s been great to get out into the heart of Fleetwood, hearing from local officers about the main issues they are dealing with and talking to the public about their priorities for policing in the area.

“Lorraine and I discussed the concerns her constituents are raising, and how the police are working tirelessly to keep people safe. Through the Safer Streets Summer initiative, we’re seeing real collaboration between police, councils, businesses, and community organisations—working together to tackle the issues that matter most.

“A key part of my role is working with those that know their areas best and engaging with local MPs is an important part of ensuring we deliver the best possible policing service that the people of Lancashire expect and deserve.”

Lorraine Beavers MP for Blackpool North and Fleetwood added:

“It was great to have the Commissioner here with some of our area’s policing team, out on the streets in Fleetwood to discuss some of the local concerns that people have and how officers are dealing with them.

“We all want to see safer streets, in Fleetwood, and across my constituency, and I am committed to working with all partners to ensure the best possible policing service for all.”
