Working to keep Borehamwood’s town centre safe

An operation is running in Borehamwood to help keep people safe while enjoying the town’s night-time economy.

Part of the Safer Town Centres initiative, the operation aims to tackle issues such as anti-social behaviour, drug criminality, street drinking and male violence against women and girls.

Officers are working in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council to conduct regular visible patrols in and around Shenley Road, visit licensed premises and engage with members of the public.

Hertsmere Community Safety Sergeant James Valle said: “This operation is just one example of the work we’re doing to deter crime and keep people safe in Borehamwood, as part of the government’s Safer Town Centres initiative.

“These visits allow us to speak with members of the public and those who work within licenced premises, to pass on safety advice, discuss concerns and identify any issues.

“We’re hopeful that the initiative can help build trust and confidence, encouraging people to report any issues to us.”

Cllr Christian Gray, Hertsmere Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Neighbourhoods, Enforcement, Economic Development and Transformation commented: “I’m pleased that specialist staff from the council were able to play a very active role in this operation.

“Our licensing specialist supported the operation with checks whilst community safety and community enforcement staff were able to talk directly to people enjoying a night out in the town, offer them crime prevention advice and gather views on how safe everyone feels when out and about at night in this community. It’s another example of a positive multi-agency operation.”
