Bogus workman targets elderly couple in Normanton.

Good morning

We are urging residents to be on their guard after an elderly couple were the victims of a bogus workman on Wednesday 13 August at 15:00

The male suspect approached the property on Dalefield Road, Normanton and engaged in friendly conversation and acted like he knew the couple. He stated that he had come for the money for the guttering work that he had previously done. The couple took his word for this. The suspect followed the couple into the house and took an envelope of cash directly from their hand and left.

Enquiries are ongoing to try and identify the suspect.

Please remind relatives/neighbours/friends about this type of scam as bogus workmen prey on the vulnerable and try to obtain cash, through deception, for work that is not necessary or work that has never been done.

Please remember – You don’t have to let anyone into your home. Always check the ID of the person at the door and don't be afraid to make checks via a phone call with the company/organisation that the doorstep caller is claiming to be from.

Never hand over money up front to anyone that turns up unannounced.

Look out for vulnerable neighbours, especially older residents, and report suspicious callers immediately.
