Prolific Shoplifter Arrested in Hampstead Town

On Monday, you may have noticed an increased police present on Hampstead High Street, after our Police Community Support Officer, PCSO Majid, detained a prolific shoplifter, who was also wanted by police.

The incident began when the PCSO, who does not have the same powers of arrest as a Police Constable, spotted the suspect following a theft from Boots on Hampstead High Street, NW3. The PCSO pursued the man onto Flask Walk, NW3, calling for urgent support from nearby officers.

Thanks to the swift response from colleagues, and a member of the public, the suspect was detained and arrested. He has since been charged with shoplifting and assaulting an emergency worker and was remanded in custody over night to appear before the courts.

Shoplifting is an issue we know causes frustration and concern for local businesses and residents. We are taking a proactive approach in Hampstead Town, working closely with retailers, business groups, and targeting known offenders to reduce offending and hold those responsible to account.

If you have any information about crime in the area, you can report it directly to the police by calling 101 or online at met.police.uk. Alternatively, you can raise concerns anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org
