Local Priorities Mobile phone theft Message

I wanted to provide an update regarding Mobile phone theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

πŸ“± Mobile Phone Theft – Don’t Make It Easy for Thieves
Tottenham Central Ward – Community Safety Update

We’ve seen an increase in mobile phone thefts across London, including in some parts of Tottenham. Thieves often use mopeds, e-scooters or bikes to snatch phones from people using them in public.

Help us keep you safe by following these top tips from the Met Police:

βœ… Be alert when using your phone in public – especially on busy streets or near the roadside. Keep close to a wall or shop front and avoid holding your phone out for long periods.
βœ… Secure your phone – use a strong PIN, fingerprint or facial recognition, and turn off lock-screen message previews to protect your data.
βœ… Set up tracking – activate 'Find My iPhone' or 'Find My Device' and regularly back up your phone.
βœ… Know your IMEI number – dial *#06# and save it somewhere safe. This helps police trace your phone if it's stolen.
βœ… Keep headphones tucked away – visible phones and accessories can make you a target.

Let’s all work together to reduce thefts and stay safe. Please share these tips with family, friends and neighbours.

We are working on our brand-new strategy for how we police London and we want your help. Our New Met for London: Phase 2 strategy will guide how we deliver on behalf of Londoners over the next three years, and we want to make sure you have had the chance to have your say. The consultation paper is available online, as well as a survey to let us know what you think. This closes on the 15 September.
