Community safety restored in Reading estate

Hello Resident,

Your local Neighbourhood Policing team has been tackling antisocial behaviour!

Working alongside partnership agencies, we were able to identify three key concerns in Hexham Road Estate:

  • Vulnerable residents
  • Fly-tipping and general condition of the area
  • Drugs use and drugs paraphernalia
  • Through a multi-agency effort, Thames Valley Police, in partnership with Reading Borough Council (RBC) and local community organisations, successfully implemented:

  • Closure orders
  • Community Protection Warnings (CPWs),
  • Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs)
  • Door-to-door engagement with residents
  • Environmental visual audits (EVAs)
  • Installation of CCTV in key areas
  • Youth engagement sessions
  • In the last 12 months, we have increased our use of powers to tackle antisocial behaviour by over 150% compared to the previous year.

In cases where residents were too frightened to leave their homes, there has been the biggest impact – with many now expressing increased confidence in going outside.

One resident, originally from the area but later relocated to more suitable accommodation, shared that the support received has enabled him to regain a sense of control over his life.

While patrols continue and officers remain a visible presence, the message is clear: tackling antisocial behaviour changes lives.
