Police Crack Down on Illegal E-Bike Use in Leigh Town Centre

Local police officers carried out a proactive operation earlier today on Bradshawgate and surrounding streets in Leigh Town Centre, targeting the illegal use of electric bikes (e-bikes).

During the operation, four e-bikes were seized, including one capable of reaching speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour. All four riders were found to be operating the vehicles without a valid driving licence or insurance. Each individual will be processed via a Traffic Offence Report (TOR), and appropriate enforcement action will follow.

In one instance, a nearby workman kindly assisted officers after the key to the lock on one of the seized e-bikes was reported as “lost”.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. The use of illegal and unregulated e-bikes poses a serious risk to both riders and the wider public.

Hopefully, the streets will be a little safer for a while.

Take Care!
