Fraud / Scam Calls from fake 'Police'

Dear Resident

Please be aware of a recent spate of calls made to local residents in our area claiming to be from THE METROPOLITAN POLICE - Hammersmith Police Station.

THESE CALLS ARE FAKE !!!!!!

The caller claims to be a police detective from London investigating the theft of  your credit cards and the subsequent arrest of an offender. As a matter of urgency the caller then tries to get the victim to disclose credit card numbers or bank details as part of this investigation, or even withdraw cash from their bank for subsequent collection by ‘police’. He also invites the victim to call 999 to verify his identity.

In simple terms, genuine Police do not conduct investigations in such a manner. We would not in any circumstances ask for such personal financial details or get you to withdraw cash.

The Fraudsters are persistent and have repeatedly called the victim several times in quick succession. They are very convincing.

If you receive such a call , hang up immediately, do not pass on ANY PERSONAL OR FINANCIAL DETAILS, CALL 999 on a different phone (or ensure the line has been cleared correctly) and check you are speaking with HERTFORDSHIRE CONSTABULARY.

Victims tend to be some of our more Senior Resident's. Please ensue your friends, neighbours and relations are aware of this scam and act accordingly.
