Dear Residents,

We are anticipating a seasonal lull in activity at the junction of Hartopp Road and Howard Road. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience as we addressed the immediate issues of vehicle ASB and further issues we felt led to drawing ASB to the area.

Here is a quick rundown of actions carried out and results we perceived:

  • Plain Clothes – Uniformed and non-uniformed patrols were carried out in the area to get a spontaneous, candid look at the issues.
  • Section 59 – 8 notices have been issued to vehicles – this has led to some vehicles not returning to the area after receiving the warnings, other drivers had car privilege taken from them.
  • Intel Gathering – After engaging with students and residents alike, we were able to gather intelligence that groups from further afield were attending the area in the earlier days of the issues arising.
  • Arrests – On occasions, there was enough cause from concern for an emergency response linked to the area. Despite being low level, suspects were identified and arrested either at the time or post incidents taking place.
  • Community Cohesion – PCSOs Paul Williams, Amarjit Sanghera and PC Des Bausor spent a lot of time in the area of Howard Road, Hartopp Road and WQE to reinforce relations with parties involved.
  • Licensing – We had concerns over some business premises in the area, we worked with Leicestershire City Council to carry out enforcement whereby £13,000 of vapes and tobacco products that were not UK legal were seized.
  • Outcome:

We appreciate that groups still have been congregating at the junction, we have been engaging with these groups to keep relationships positive in the community. We have advised that even though their gatherings aren’t a primary concern, the perception of large groups can be intimidating to the community.

We hope our actions have at at least some impact on the area, we will endeavour to carry on with patrols in the area and address further concerns. We would like to hear from you if you have any feedback you would like to put forward via:
