Introducing a new Mounted Volunteer

Hello,

I would like to introduced our new mounted volunteer, Jo and Spot to the South Northamptonshire Team, Jo and Spot were recently patrolling the village of Potterspury, and will be out providing reassurance around the Potterspury, Deanshanger & Wicken areas.

The Volunteers on Horseback scheme has been running since 2014 and currently has around 50 active volunteers across the county.

These volunteers make a difference by engaging with rural communities and assisting in public reassurance.

Working closely with Neighbourhood Policing and Rural Crime teams, the Volunteers on Horseback:

  • Regularly patrol on private land. By being allowed on private land they can check for any suspicious activity such as open gates, damaged fencing, tyre marks across open land, or dumped property.

  • The Volunteers on Horseback have a proven record of recovering stolen property from private land

  • Help to improve trust and confidence within their communities. The volunteers wear Northamptonshire Police liveried fluorescent jackets so they can be easily identified.

  • We are currently seeking Volunteers on Horseback in the area. If you're interested in being involved, please email citizensinpolicing@northants.police.uk or please respond to this alert message.
