Latest Scam Alert |
||||
Dear Resident,
Barclays impersonation email
A dodgy email claiming to be from Barclays attempts to appear convincing by addressing you by name. The message goes on to say that due to new requirements by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), biometric authentication (logging into accounts via fingerprints and faces) is becoming mandatory. This isn't true but is designed to get you to follow a malicious link labelled 'get started.' This link will lead to a phishing website created to grab your personal and financial details. Dodgy emails can be reported by forwarding them to report@phishing.gov.uk. Suspicious websites can be reported to the National Cyber Security Centre.
Parking fine scam text
Scammers are continuing to send dodgy texts claiming that you've been issued a parking penalty notice (PCN) using spoofed mobile numbers and email addresses. The text tells you that you must pay a £20 parking fine and says that this is your final notice. It goes on to scare you by claiming that legal action could be taken against you if you don't pay and includes a malicious link to follow to make the payment. This will lead to a website impersonating the government's official site in order to get you to type in your personal and financial information. You can report scam texts by forwarding the message to 7726.
If you have been a victim of a scam, then report it to Action Fraud or by calling 03001232040, alternatively by calling Humberside Police via 101.
Regards, Brigg NPT
