Warm Weather Burglary Risks

This is a message from Wycombe District Neighbourhood Watch Association.

With the recent warm weather and more forecast to come, we want to make you aware of the burglary risks that are particularly associated with this time of year.

We have already been advised of burglaries where the householder has popped out briefly, but has left windows open or doors unlocked with burglaries taking place in that relatively short period.  With very many burglaries only taking just 3 or 4 minutes, we do have to encourage everyone to take extra care at this time of year.

As we are in the holiday season, the following checklist of things to do before going away might help:

  • Lock all doors and windows.
  • Check that side gates, sheds and garages are locked and tools or ladders are not accessible.
  • Store all house, car and window keys out of sight and away from doors or windows.
  • Make sure your home looks occupied by using a timer switch to turn on lights, a radio, or a TV from dusk.
  • Ask a trusted friend to look after your home while you are away.
  • Invite a neighbour to park their vehicle on your drive while you are away.
  • For more detailed information on burglary prevention, see the attached details provided by Thames Valley Police.
  • Thank you.
